Hi! It has been awhile.....haven't had anything on my mind to write about honestly, but last night while doing laundry I couldn't help but think about all the clothes I am lucky enough to own.....I recently went thru a forced clothing purge that left me with only a few staples....at first this made me worried....I mean not to brag but I had a huge closet filled with beautiful clothes, purses, and shoes.....the kind of closet you smiled at when you walked in.....but in an effort to keep a smile on my face everyday this closet and the clothes within it had to be left behind....which brings me to current day.
When I first started replenishing my wardrobe I told myself "this time around be simple" In my head simple was more jeans and t-shirts and less dresses, pantsuits, and silk. For the first month I did pretty well I bought clothes that made me "fit in" more.....I bought clothes that made me feel the "hipster" kinda trendy which in my head it was lace up black boots from H&M....lol
To tell ya the truth, getting dresses became much easier....less options gave me less choices which in return made me get out the door faster and not have five outfits to hang up when I got home! But then NYE came around.....and I was ready to really stand out! I purchased a couple of dresses online and when they arrived I did a fashion show for my friends...who were as displeased as I was in them....and I thought to myself.....if only I had my old closet back! That thought had crept into my mind a time or two before but nothing like it did in that moment...For the first time I realized my "dressing down" was me masking myself to better "fit in" with what I thought everyone wanted....
The reality is that I didn't change back to the "old me" right away....but how can I sell myself, my brand, and my vision without dressing myself in what makes me happiest. So, about a month ago I went out and splurged on my favorite pants of all time....they are from Alice and Olivia and they are high-waist silk masterpieces! Every time I wear them I feel beautiful....I bought a couple other things too...then a couple weeks ago I bought this amazing Robert Graham dress....and before I knew it...my closet was making me smile again....it isn't as big, there are not as many options....but everything in it is a reflection of me and somehow shows the World a little bit of who I am...
I look forward to my shop opening in late April....it too is a reflection of me....something I hope ya'll like....cause if not....I'll be broke! lol JK...maybe
Till Next Time,
N
